Brief Project Description<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The project included comprehensive design<\/strong> for the reconstruction of a cooling plant<\/strong> in a large shopping center. Mechanical<\/strong> and electrical engineering<\/strong> designs were prepared. The goal was to ensure long-term energy-efficient<\/strong>, flexible, and reliable cooling supply while optimizing electricity consumption and peak demand.<\/p>\n

The core design element was the introduction of a latent cold storage system with ice banks, integrated into a central cooling system with a peak cooling capacity exceeding 2.0 MW and storage capacity over 6,700 kWh. Challenge<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The main challenge were highly variable cooling loads throughout the day and the need to adapt system operation to weather conditions and electricity market dynamics. The system had to cover peak loads without increasing the connected electrical capacity while maintaining stable chilled water temperatures for all consumers.<\/p>\n

Correct sizing of cooling and storage capacity was critical, as incorrect assumptions directly affect efficiency, investment cost, and operational reliability.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Solution and Benefits<\/strong><\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t

Required cooling and storage capacities were determined through hourly energy modeling, accounting for actual operating schedules, internal heat gains, and meteorological data. Based on this, a hydraulically and control-optimized solution of chillers and ice banks was developed.<\/p>\n

System operation is controlled according to forecasted cooling demand, outdoor conditions, and hourly electricity prices, enabling optimal chiller operation and storage charging\/discharging. Commissioning verified compliance with design documentation, functionality of all operating modes, and baseline parameters for optimization.
